Professor Zink has been a Faculty member in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry since 1970. He received his B.S. degree in Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin. He came to UCLA after receiving his PhD degree from the University of Illinois under the direction of Russell S. Drago. He is a Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and a member of the California Nanosystems Institute. He has been an invited guest professor at the University of Paris VI and at the University of Amsterdam, and serves as an ACS tour speaker. He is an authority on triboluminescence, photochemistry and photophysics of metal-containing molecules, and on nanomachines, and has published almost 400 articles. His current research is focused on fundamental spectroscopic investigation of large metal-containing molecules and on design, operation and biological applications of functional nanomaterials including nanomachines such as valves and impellers.

Dr. Donglu Shi is a professor at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Shi has conducted research across diverse fields such as nanoscience, energy materials, and condensed matter physics. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed journal publications and 13 books in energy materials and nano medicine. Dr. Shi is a Fellow of the ASM International.

Dr Zongjin LI is Chair professor at Macau University of Science and Technology. He received his B.E. from Zhejiang University in 1982 and obtained both his M.S. and PhD from Northwestern University, Chicago, in 1990 and 1993, respectively. He is honorary member and fellow of American Concrete Institute, Chair of China Group of RILEM and Founding President of ACI China Chapter. As the chief scientist, he has led a China Key National Basic Research Project (973) that promoted the concrete research in China to a world-class level. He also founded a series of the Gordon Research Conference, ‘Advanced Materials for Sustainable Infrastructure Development’ in 2014.

He is pioneer in noncontact resistivity/impedance measurement for cement-based materials. He also developed cement-based piezoelectric and opened a new direction for civil engineering. The methodology he developed to utilizing the in-situ polymerization of monomer during cement hydration process has shown a strong effect in enhancing flexural strength of cement-based composite. He has published 5 technical books, in which ‘Advanced Concrete Technology’ has been collected by many national and major university libraries. He has published more than 400 technical papers with a Google Scholar citation of 28928and H-index of 91. He has also been awarded eight US and twenty Chinese patents.

He received the Arthur R. Anderson Medal from American Concrete Institute in 2017 and Distinguished Visiting Fellowship Award from British Royal Academy of Engineering in 2014.

Dr. Richard J. Spontak is a Distinguished Professor of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, Professor of Materials Science & Engineering, and Alumni Distinguished Graduate and Undergraduate Professor at North Carolina State University.

He received his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering (with honors/high distinction) from the Pennsylvania State University in 1983 and was later awarded the Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1988. He then pursued post-doctoral research in Materials Science & Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge (U.K.) and Condensed Matter Physics at the Institute for Energy Technology (Norway) before joining the Corporate Research Division of The Procter & Gamble Company in 1990.

In 1992, he accepted a faculty position at North Carolina State University, where he supervises the Macromolecular Materials & Morphology Group. Since that time, Spontak has published over 300 peer-reviewed journal papers and over 35 scholarly works as book chapters and invited monographs, and his work has been featured on 31 journal covers and cited over 14,000 times according to Google Scholar (as of November 2021). Although active in a diverse range of disciplines, his primary research interests relate to the phase behavior and morphology/property development of nanostructured polymers, polymer nanocomposites and coatings, electron microscopy, and stimuli-responsive soft materials.

In recognition of his fundamental and applied research endeavors, he is the recipient of numerous honors and awards such as the Alcoa Foundation Engineering Achievement and Distinguished Engineering Research Awards, Alexander von Humboldt and Tewkesbury fellowships, the North Carolina State University Alumni Outstanding Research and Global Engagement Awards, the 2006 American Chemical Society (PMSE Division) Cooperative Research Award in Polymer Science & Engineering, the 2007 German Society for Electron Microscopy Ernst Ruska Prize, the 2008 American Chemical Society (Rubber Division) Chemistry of Thermoplastic Elastomers Award, the 2011 Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining (IOM3) Colwyn Medal, the 2012 Norwegian University of Science & Technology Lars Onsager Medal, the 2015 Society of Plastics Engineers International Award, the 2021 Tau Beta Pi Distinguished Alumni Award, and the 2021 International Association of Advanced Materials Researcher of the Year Award.

An elected fellow of the American Physical Society, IOM3, and the Royal Society of Chemistry, he is or has been on the editorial advisory board of more than 20 international journals and holds editorial positions on three of them. He has been recognized as a 2007 Outstanding Scholar Alumnus and a 2012 Alumni Fellow by the Pennsylvania State University, and he is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences and the North Carolina State University Research Leadership, Global Engagement and Outstanding Teaching Academies.

Spontak is also a highly acclaimed educator and academic mentor. For his instructional effectiveness employing cooperative and active learning pedagogies in the classroom and his widespread efforts to promote interdisciplinary engineering design and undergraduate research, he has received college- and alumni-level Outstanding Teaching Awards, as well as the university-level Board of Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, the highest institutional honor bestowed by the University of North Carolina system. He has also received the 2006 International Network for Engineering Education & Research Recognition Award and the 2009 American Society for Engineering Education Southeast Region Outstanding Mid-Career Teaching Award, and he has served as a Fulbright Senior Specialist and an Erasmus Fellow.

Sergey Ivashov, PhD, graduated from Space Research faculty, Moscow Institute of Physics & Technology, with honors in 1972; as post-graduate student he had successfully submitted the thesis for a PhD degree in 1975. He worked as a scientific researcher in rocket industry of the USSR in 1975-1977. Since 1977 up to 2000 he had been working in the Central Scientific and Research Institute of Radio & Electronic systems, Moscow, as a senior scientific fellow and thereafter he had been promoted for a head of Laboratory. From January 2001 up to now he is the head of the Remote Sensing Laboratory at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Moscow.

His latest research relates to NDT&E of thermal insulation of rocket cryogenic fuel tanks by holographic radar. Other scientific interests are connected with holographic subsurface radar design and its applications for searching of bugging devices and civil construction engineering. The air reconnaissance of mine fields and development of radar sensors for mine’s detection related to humanitarian demining operations are also included in area of his scientific interests.

His research also includes remote detection and diagnostics of human heartbeat and breathing for applications in security and medicine. This research is based on using of continues-wave radar in frequency band of 2-15 GHz.

Yinghong Wu received her double Ph.D. degrees with two separated theses in Chemical Technology from the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences and in Energy and Environment from City University of Hong Kong in 2020. Her research interests lie in clean and renewable energy harvesting, self-powered electronics, smart textiles, sports/health monitoring, advanced materials, wearable technologies, etc. She has completed previous postdoctoral research at the University of Hong Kong in 2021. She is currently a Material Scientist at ETH Zürich. She was awarded HKSTP ideation Fund (2023), Advanced Materials Innovation Award (2023), HK Tech 300 Innovation & Entrepreneurship Fund (2022), Global Change Award Finalist (2020), University Dean Scholarships (2020), National Scholarships of China (2019), etc. She has published 40 SCI papers, including SmartMat, Advanced Functional Materials, Nano Energy, ACS Nano, Advanced Science, Small, Journal of Materials Chemistry A, EcoMat, etc.

I was born in Tokat, Turkey in 1992. I completed my undergraduate and master's degrees in molecular biology and genetics. I am currently a Ph.D. student at Poznan University of Medical Sciences, Poland. I completed previous doctoral research at the Izmir Katip Celebi University, Turkey, in 2021. My research interests lie in therapeutic and neuroprotective approaches against neurodegeneration on Parkinson's disease. Hamid Reza Vanaei is an Associate Professor who earned his MSc and PhD in Mechanics of Materials at Arts et Métiers, Paris-France. He has 6 years of experience in Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Additive Manufacturing. He worked as a postdoc, applying Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to optimize Turbo machinery and their production procedures using AM techniques. During his journey, he developed an in situ monitoring approach for temperature recording. His main research work essentially consists of a multidisciplinary approach toward AM techniques, particularly Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF). His primary research topics include AM and AI, and he also applies them to other related research categories and industrial projects.

H. Siampour is a Lecturer at Queen's University Belfast, focusing his research primarily on investigating the interplay between nanophotonics and quantum optics. Before his current role, he held the position of Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, contributing to the development of a quantum simulation platform utilizing interacting spins in diamond. Prior to that, he was a Postdoc at the University of Sheffield, working on the development of a semiconductor nanophotonic platform for directional spin-photon coupling.

He obtained his PhD degree in Nano-optics from the University of Southern Denmark, with his thesis titled "A Nanophotonic Platform for Quantum Optical Integrated Circuits".

Dr. Abdelmjid Bouazizi presently holds the position of Professor at the Department of Sciences within the Ecole normalesuperieure, Moulay Ismail University of Meknes, Morocco, and he is a member of the Laboratory of Materials, Membranes, and Nanotechnology at Faculty of Sciences, Moulay Ismail University.He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical physical sciences in 2011 from the Faculty of Sciences and Technologies (FST) at Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech, Morocco. He further pursued his academic journey by obtaining a Magister degree in 2014 and a Ph.D in 2019, both in the field of Materials Science and Environment, from the FST of Mohammedia at Hassan II University of Casablanca. Dr. Bouazizi's primary research interests revolve around ceramic membrane technologies. Marek Bajtos, was born in Levoca, Slovakia in 1997, is an accomplished researcher in the field of biomedical engineering. In 2021, he successfully obtained his master's degree from the University of Zilina, Slovakia, and started his doctoral studies in the same year. Demonstrating his dedication to academic growth, he pursued a research stay at the esteemed Silesian University of Technology in Poland from April to June 2022. Building on his international experiences, he has joined the research group led by Professor Barnes at the University of Colorado Boulder, USA, since April 2023. Currently, his research interests lie in the exploration of electromagnetic fields and their intricate interactions with biological systems.
